BBC Irish Launch

We’re very proud to announce that the BBC Irish Portal is now live at bbc.co.uk/irish

Front has delivered several projects for the BBC including Titanic, Sesame Tree (with our friends at Atto) and now the BBC Northern Ireland’s Irish Language Portal.

BBC Irish

The portal draws together all textual, audio and video content produced by BBC NI, related to Irish language and culture, into one site. The Irish team at the BBC are also transferring many of their archived materials to the site over the coming months and years.

Speaking at the launch, Antaine O’Donnaile compared the evolution of languages to the evolution of species; it’s not about being the “fittest”, rather it’s about being able and willing to adapt to new situations. The Irish language portal is proof of the BBC’s commitment to the ongoing evolution of the Irish language through new technologies and the web.

I was asked to say a few brief words about designing and building the site; I passed on my thanks to the BBC and to the Irish Language Broadcast Fund who funded the project, and re-iterated the pride the team here has in the end product.

We hugely value our relationship with BBC; long may it continue. Thanks to all involved.
