Paul May - Winning Bigger Web Projects - Barcamp Belfast

Thanks to everybody who came to listen and support myself and Paul McKeever today at Barcamp Belfast.

Barcamp was a really successful day; well organised, well attended - we got to meet up with some old and new friends. Barcamp is becoming a really important date on the calendar here in Belfast, and you can feel the industry moving forward as a result. The slides and video from my talk are now available online, and are also embedded below.

Paul May speaking at Barcamp Belfast. The photo shows Paul standing on a stage with a large projector screen in the background. On the screen is the word Questions?

Thanks again to all who came, and thanks to the organisers and sponsors for making such a great day possible.

BarCampBelfast was by far the most successful conference I’ve been to in a long time.

It really gives me confidence (not that I was lacking much) the future is bright in the tech scene in Ireland.

I’ve written up a short report with photos on the event on my blog:

Great event, and was super to get chatting with everyone.

Also enjoyed Lee Munroe’s talk, which should get double points as he was en route to do the London Marathon!

Some of the Front team will also be talking at Refresh Belfast on the 18th May - would be great to see you there: http://www.designbyfront.com/workinprogress/article/refresh-belfast-2009

This was my first BarCamp, and I shan’t be missing another! Cheers to Stephen Stewart (Banjax) for his talk on HTML 5, I also found it interesting to hear Dermot McNally speaking about the collaborative work being done at http://www.openstreetmap.org

Thanks for the kind words about our talks - we really enjoyed the day.

Double thumbs up for the http://OpenStreetMap.org talk from Dermot - a vital project given the growing importance of data being visualised in a geo-context.

With the success of the DevDays event on Friday, then Barcamp - last week was a big leap for tech here in Belfast.

Paul May: enjoyed your talk, was going to retitle my talk “HTML5: A Better Spade” but events conspired against me.

Charlie: Thanks! And thanks to you and Eammon for staying behind to see the demo’s I didn’t get to demo :)

Stephen: Thanks for the kind words. We’re excited about HTML 5; some of the stuff we’ve seen from Google and the likes using it (mobile, offline gmail browser etc) are really cool.  I hope things are well with you.
