Code God/Goddess Required

FRONT produces great work for clients from across the UK and Ireland. We are a small and dedicated team with varied skills and an agile mindset that gives us plenty of creative freedom. As part of our continued growth we require a passionate and experienced developer with a talent for creating tasty object oriented code for the web. This person will create exceptional web applications and lead a team of developers.

The Gig

Most of your time will be spent thinking about and developing server and clients-side web applications. Typically you will be developing and extending server-side applications and frameworks; using PHP to extend ExpressionEngine, writing handy Perl applications, building custom apps in Ruby on Rails. You should also speak fluent (and standards compliant) XHTML/CSS/JS.

On a day to day basis you will be:

  • Working with clients to understand their requirements
  • Developing these requirements into great web apps
  • Testing applications to ensure they are bullet-proof
  • Standing over the quality of our technical solutions

We also need you to take an active role in:

  • Coaching and developing the development team
  • Delivering team workshops and teaching us new things
  • Estimating and planning work with project managers
  • Thinking about how we can do things better
  • Generally contributing to a great working environment

The Person

You should have proven technical ability with lots of experience.

We are not going to start naming an exhastive list of technologies; but you'll need to know your stuff.

A third level degree in a related discipline would be great to have, but we value experience as well as book-learning.

Being able to work and communicate effectively and work as part of a team is vital. You be working closely with a diverse range of clients and the FRONT team, often on tight deadlines. Sometimes you will be required to present work to clients and advocate your approach to particular problems, but this will always with the support of the team, so don't be afraid.

The ideal candidate will have an expert understanding of user interface design. We are prepared to be flexible on this one, but you will definitely need to have an understanding of the basic principles of making things easy to use.
